Bogotá, Colombia, from June 14–18, 2026.

ISOTT 2026:
June 14th to 18th, 2026

LOCATION:
Campus of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana

On behalf of the organizing committee, it is my immense pleasure and honor to invite you to the 53rd Annual Meeting of the International Society on Oxygen Transport to Tissue (ISOTT), to be held from June 14th to 18th, 2026, in the vibrant city of Bogotá, Colombia.

For the first time, our distinguished society will convene at an altitude of 2,640 meters (8,660 feet), a singular setting that offers an exceptional opportunity to investigate the fundamental principles of our discipline. In this natural laboratory for physiological adaptation, the topics of oxygen sensing, transport, and utilization transcend academic theory, manifesting as tangible aspects of daily life.

Since its inception in 1973, ISOTT has served as the premier forum for a multidisciplinary community of scientists, engineers, and clinicians dedicated to advancing the understanding of oxygen's role in health and disease. The contributions of our members are extensive, ranging from the pioneering of optical techniques and advancements in artificial blood to the development of novel therapeutic strategies for ischemia, cancer, and neurovascular disorders. Through these efforts, our members continually expand the frontiers of scientific inquiry.

Join us in Bogotá for a landmark event where cutting-edge research, stimulating discussions, and invaluable collaborations will flourish, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Andes mountains. We eagerly await the opportunity to welcome you to Colombia for an unforgettable scientific and cultural experience.

The conference will be held on the campus of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, one of Colombia’s most prestigious and historic universities in Colombia. Founded in 1623, the university seamlessly blends a rich Jesuit intellectual tradition with a forward-looking vision for the 21st century.

Nestled against the magnificent backdrop of Bogotá’s Eastern Hills (Cerros Orientales), the campus is a modern, vibrant hub of academic life. It serves as an oasis of tranquility and intellectual dynamism within the bustling city. Its contemporary architecture, beautiful green spaces, and interconnected buildings create an environment that is both stimulating and welcoming.

As our host, the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana offers state-of-the-art auditoriums, versatile meeting rooms, and advanced technological infrastructure, ensuring a smooth and productive experience for all attendees. You will find yourself in a setting perfectly conducive to learning, networking, and forging the future of oxygen-related research.

Bogotá: The Vibrant Heart of Colombia

Perched high in the Andes, Bogotá is a sprawling, energetic metropolis where centuries of history coexist with a dynamic, modern pulse. This is a city of captivating contrasts: the colonial charm of La Candelaria's cobblestone streets stands against the sleek, contemporary architecture of the financial district; the reverence of historic churches is matched by the creative energy of its world-class street art.

Bogotá: The Vibrant Heart of Colombia

As the cultural and intellectual capital of Colombia, Bogotá offers a wealth of experiences. Explore the dazzling collection of pre-Hispanic artifacts at the world-renowned Gold Museum (Museo del Oro), or admire the voluminous figures painted by the nation's most famous artist at the Botero Museum. Indulge your senses in the Paloquemao market, a kaleidoscope of exotic fruits and flowers, and savor the rich aroma of locally sourced coffee in one of the city's thousands of specialty cafés.

The city has also emerged as a premier gastronomic destination in Latin America. Bogotá's culinary scene is a vibrant fusion of tradition and innovation, where world-class chefs craft inventive menus using rich, local ingredients. From the upscale restaurants of the Zona G (the 'G' stands for Gastronomy) to the charming bistros of Chapinero Alto, you can savor everything from sophisticated tasting menus to the comforting warmth of a traditional Ajiaco soup.

As night falls, Bogotá reveals another side of its personality. The city comes alive with a diverse and energetic nightlife. Whether you prefer a sophisticated cocktail bar in the chic Zona Rosa, a craft beer pub in Quinta Camacho, or dancing to the infectious rhythms of salsa and cumbia in a lively club, you'll find an atmosphere to suit your mood. The area around Parque 93 is particularly known for its elegant restaurants and vibrant bars, offering the perfect setting to unwind after a day of scientific sessions.

Colombia: A land of Resilience and Enchantment

Colombia is officially recognized as one of the world's most megadiverse countries, a testament to its unique geography. Its landscapes span the soaring, snow-capped peaks of three Andean mountain ranges, the sun-drenched beaches and turquoise waters of the Caribbean, the wild Pacific coast famous for whale watching, the vast eastern plains (Los Llanos), and the dense Amazon rainforest. This unparalleled natural wealth makes it the world's number one destination for bird watching and a paradise for eco-tourism, hiking, and outdoor adventure.

The country's cultural heritage is just as rich. You can explore the enigmatic pre-Columbian statues of San Agustín, trek to the ancient "Lost City" (Ciudad Perdida) in the Sierra Nevada mountains, or wander the perfectly preserved colonial streets of Cartagena and Villa de Leyva. This richness is expressed through a vibrant spirit, most notably in its music and dance. Experience the infectious energy of salsa in its world capital, Cali, or the folkloric beats of cumbia on the coast. Every region offers a distinct identity, a unique accent, and its own traditions waiting to be discovered.

This diversity extends to its cuisine, with each region boasting unique local dishes and ingredients that tell the story of its culture. But above all, Colombian hospitality is legendary. You will be greeted by a warm, friendly, and forward-looking people, proud of their heritage and eager to share their country's magic with the world.

Your visit for ISOTT 2026 is more than just a conference trip—it is an invitation to discover the soul of South America. We are confident that the energy of Bogotá and the warmth of Colombia will make your stay an unforgettable one.
